Without a doubt, COVID-19 has changed everyday life for us all. Many restrictions have been put in place to minimise the risk of the virus spreading and we’ve heard the message loud and clear to ‘Stay at Home’.
One of the ways in which the lockdown has impacted me is the closure of gyms. I was gutted when this happened because I would describe the fitness studio https://www.griffinfit.co.uk/ as my ‘happy place’. Since my decision two years ago to get fitter, I’ve been attending fitness classes 3 times a week and I love it! It’s great being part of a community of like-minded people, be accepted, have fun and be pushed beyond what we think is our limit!
It was a bit of a no-brainer that the fitness studio would start to offer fitness sessions online, via Facebook, Zoom and YouTube. Clients get the chance to stick with their fitness regime from the comfort of their own homes.
This got me thinking. There are so many plus size women who want to get fitter but fear entering a gym or being seen outside if they choose to go for a walk or jog. Accessing fitness online means that you can try things out without fear of being seen or judged. There are so many options these days – dance, yoga, seated exercise, aerobics, the list goes on! Here’s one specifically for plus size women that you might like to try http://www.biggirlfitgirl.com
One of my clients has started exercising with friends using WhatsApp video, following a routine online and encouraging each other along the way. She loves it because it motivates her and it’s fun doing it with friends. She finds that it helps with accountability and commitment.
Have you been thinking about getting fitter? What activity do you think you’d enjoy? How about starting with a 10-minute routine, then build up to 20 minutes, then 30 minutes? Before you know it, you could be doing an hour! Imagine how great you’d feel!
